The UCAT ANZ Consortium has released the preliminary statistics for the 2025 testing cycle. These figures provide an early insight into candidate performance before final deciles and percentile tables are published later in the year.
Key Changes in 2025
The UCAT ANZ format changed in 2025, with Abstract Reasoning removed from the cognitive subtests. As a result, the total cognitive score now sums three sections (Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making, and Quantitative Reasoning) rather than four. This means the total score range is now 900–2700, instead of 1200–3600.
There was also a notable increase in candidate numbers, with over 16,950 test-takers in 2025 compared to around 15,240 in 2024.
UCAT ANZ 2025 Preliminary Statistics
Cognitive Subtests
Each cognitive subtest is scored from 300–900. With Abstract Reasoning removed, the three remaining sections scored as follows:
Verbal Reasoning (VR):
Mean: 620
Median: 610
Decision Making (DM):
Mean: 642
Median: 650
Quantitative Reasoning (QR):
Mean: 679
Median: 660
Total Cognitive Scaled Score (VR + DM + QR):
Mean: 1941
Median: 1920
These averages are slightly higher than the 2024 equivalents, reflecting improved performance across all three sections.
Situational Judgement Test (SJT)
The SJT remains unchanged in format, and 2025 performance shows a modest increase:
Mean: 585 (up from 569 in 2024)
Median: 593 (up from 578 in 2024)
How Does This Compare to Previous Years?
Because the scoring structure has changed, direct comparisons with earlier years require caution. However, it’s clear that:
Average scores have risen across all three cognitive subtests.
SJT performance has also improved slightly.
Competition may be more intense, with a record number of 16,950 candidates sitting the test.
The UCAT Consortium has not yet released official deciles or percentile conversion tables for 2025. These will become available with the final statistics later in the year.
What This Means for Your Application
A strong UCAT ANZ score remains essential for entry into many Australian and New Zealand medical and dental programs. While cut-offs vary by university and year, competitive applicants typically aim for the top deciles.
If your score is below your target percentile, remember that many universities also consider factors like ATAR, GPA, or rural/Indigenous background, and there are alternative pathways into medicine and dentistry.
When will the final UCAT statistics become available?
Final statistics will be released in September 2025. You’ll then be able to find out exactly what percentile score you've achieved.
Didn’t quite make the percentile you needed? If you want to sit the UCAT ANZ again next year, head over to our UCAT ANZ Online Course to get yourself prepared well in advance.
