The UCAT 2024 interim test statistics have been published. Find out where you rank among other UCAT test-takers here.

This article is written specifically for UK students.
Read the ANZ version here.
The UCAT is being sat by candidates up until 26 September 2024 and as such, the final statistics are not available (at the time of this article being updated).
However, the interim statistics provide you with a good indication of how well you did in the UCAT.
UCAT 2024 Interim Statistics
The preliminary mean total scaled score is 2582.
The table below shows the total scaled score (VR + DM + QR + AR) required to attain a particular decile rank. For example, if your total score is 2990 or above, this means you will likely be in the 9th decile rank, or top 10% of the candidates.
| Decile | Total Cognitive Scaled Score | | --- | --- | | 1st Decile | 2180 | | 2nd Decile | 2320 | | 3rd Decile | 2420 | | 4th Decile | 2500 | | 5th Decile | 2580 | | 6th Decile | 2660 | | 7th Decile | 2740 | | 8th Decile | 2850 | | 9th Decile | 2990
For the SJT section, 14% of students were placed in Band 1, 38% in Band 2, 36% in Band 3 and 12% in Band 4.
Note: The interim statistics are based on 20,066 candidates who sat the test until 15 September. The final statistics will change depending on the performance of the ~18,000 candidates who are yet to take the UCAT.
UCAT 2024 Preliminary Results
Impact on your medical school application
There are over 30 medical schools in the UK that require you to sit the UCAT, but they differ on how your scores are used. For example:
Some have a minimum threshold for the overall score.
Some use the overall score to invite applicants to interview (as a sole criterion or alongside other criteria such as academic performance).
Some exclude applicants with low SJT scores.
It is vital that you know exactly how each medical school uses the UCAT to select its applicants before you submit your UCAS application. Refer to our blog article ‘Medical Schools and Their UCAT Requirements’, which has been updated for the current admissions cycle.

If your UCAT scores are disappointing...
If you think you may not make the minimum overall UCAT score threshold or be placed in Band 4 for the SJT, do not give up hope just yet. There are plenty of options if you are still keen on pursuing a career in medicine, including:
Taking a gap year and sitting the UCAT again
Studying medicine abroad (Eastern Europe, Republic of Ireland, Australia and New Zealand)
Graduate entry route to medicine
